Dürer‘s 1503 watercolour Great Piece of Turf, is one of the earliest of today’s best-liked still life paintings.

Given his great level of realism the various plants in the turf can be identified .
van Gogh‘s 1889 The Bedroom depicts a room from his ‘Yellow House’ at 2, Place Lamartine in Arles, Bouches-du-Rhône. It is as he had set it up to welcome Gauguin for his stay there,.
Cézanne‘s 1893 Rideau, Cruchon et Compotier, marks the maturity of the great still lifes of Cezanne’s middle and late periods.
Braque‘s 1909-10 Violin and Palette, shows a Cubist’s view of the compexity of the components of a violin.
Vanessa Bell (of the Bloomsbury Group) painted this Still Life On Corner of A Mantlepiece in 1914. It was at her 46 Gordon Square house in London.
Yvel‘s 1959 photo-realism oil-on-canvas painting Frites is self explanatory.
